Tregs biology in transplantation immunity
We study the mechanisms by which Tregs induce immune tolerance in the transplantation setting. For this, we use transgenic animals and a model of skin transplantation to identify signaling pathways, molecules (such as proteins and small extracellular vesicles) and cell types that interact with Tregs to achieve the acceptance of an organ or tissue.
Tr1 cells in the tumor context
We are interested in the characterization of Tregs populations that infiltrate tumors, especially Tr1 cells. By using murine models of solid tumors, we study the interaction of Tr1 cells with other leukocytes to understand the cellular biology behind tumor growth and immune escape.
Understanding the immune response in transplanted patients
Recently, we started to collaborate with clinicians to know the problems they face in the clinical practice, specifically with kidney transplanted patients. Thus, our current interest includes the implementation of biomarkers to check the patient´s immune system status with emphasis on tracking the potential development of a rejection event.
